Hope in a time when Heaven is Falling

While the newsreels are filled with Ebola deaths in Africa, the starving in Gaza and the desperation of the wounded in Sudan, Lebanon and Venezuela, a Horsham group is mobilising finance for a vital source of hope – the heroic work of the doctors of ‘Médecins Sans Frontiers’, or MSF.

In this, their second year of active support for MSF, (English name ‘Doctors Without Borders’) Horsham’s Unitarian Church is using its extensive gardens and city centre location to invite all-comers to their MSF “FUN”-DRAISER garden party and fête to generate contributions for the charity’s global work.

Now in the planning stage for Saturday 19th September, (11.00am to 3.30pm), this MSF “FUN”-DRAISER will be a multi-faceted event with light lunches or indulgent early afternoon teas and stalls, tombola, music, children’s games displays, videos and more – with no entry fee and timed to offer an exciting finale to the family Saturday shopping trip.

Questioned on the church’s commitment to MSF support, Horsham Unitarians’ spokesman explained:

“MSF is an unbiased international organisation, with multi-religious membership. It is politically neutral, providing care wherever the need arises. It is independent, and thus free of political control. It keeps administration costs to a minimum, so the vast proportion of income going to its medical care. Wherever in the world disease or catastrophe strikes we see that MSF is there, and we are proud to do whatever we can to support its work”.
